SmartBUOY Technical Training Section 5

In this lesson, the participants complete the final electronics test of the SmartBUOY. This will include a final electronics test and preparation for final assembly.

Vocabulary

  1. SmartBUOY – The sensor that SmartICE uses to measure the sea-ice. This sensor is stationary and uses thermistors to measure the ice.
  2. Thermistors – Temperature probes that measure temperature of air, sea-ice, water, and snow.
  3. Components – a part or element of a larger whole. In this situation, the SmartBUOY is made up of several components.
  4. Conductivity – the degree to which a specified material conducts electricity, calculated as the ratio of the current density in the material to the electric field that causes the flow of current. It is the reciprocal of resistivity.
  5. Tera Term – Software used for completing an electronics test of the SmartBUOY
  6. Electronic Cables – the cables used to connect the computer to the SmartBUOY to run the electronics test. These cables communicate and provide power to the SmartBUOY
